Research area 1:
Knowledge and worldview
Within this research area, we will explore how we can use different knowledge systems to understand and engage in sustainable land use, with an emphasis on the values that are attached to nature. We look at knowledge systems that exist within science, in traditional contexts, locally and among indigenous peoples.
We will explore how different actors involved in land use issues use different types of knowledge to define sustainable land use, and whether and how they consider justice in land use. The actors may be planners, researchers, teachers, indigenous peoples, local residents, decision-makers and industry actors.
We look at how knowledge and worldviews can influence measures to restore or recover nature after land use changes. We will find ways to coordinate and build bridges between different knowledge bases.
Goal
Develop new knowledge about key challenges and solutions related to sustainable land use as a basis for research and activities in the other research areas.
Investigate how different knowledge systems and perspectives understand sustainable land use and natural values, point out similarities and differences, and find ways to build bridges between them.
Show how different knowledge systems influence planning, teaching and management of land, and how better interaction between these can contribute to a sustainable transformation of land use.
