Research theme 4.1:

Narratives – stories about and for sustainable land use

We assume that cultural narratives and stories are important in supporting societal transitions towards more sustainable land use. The work package will explore the stories or narratives that characterize and influence current land use changes, including indigenous and Sami perspectives, based on the justice perspectives developed in RA1.

We will develop tools and methods to explore, visualize and operationalize alternative narratives. This also includes underlying conditions such as values and power relations, and which shape the understanding of land use and sustainability.

We will examine what characterizes today's narratives and stories that contribute to or legitimize unsustainable land use. Furthermore, we will develop integrated methods and arenas for dialogue between actors, with the goal of exploring and co-creating new, alternative (counter)narratives that put social justice at the center, and that can contribute to promoting more sustainable land use.
