Research theme 2.2:
Incentives, motivations and rationale for decisions about unsustainable land development
We will examine which incentives, motivations and rationalities defined by society contribute to politicians adopting plans and projects that contribute to the degradation of nature and other valuable areas and to other unsustainable land development, and that private and public developers, landowners and others propose such projects and plans. We will also examine and discuss how incentives and framework conditions defined by society can be changed in ways that contribute to increased motivation and rationality for making decisions that ensure more sustainable land development and less nature loss. Furthermore, we will examine how professionals in municipal and regional administrations work to ensure that politicians make decisions that provide more sustainable land development, what challenges they face and what changes they believe can contribute.
