Research theme 4.3:

Methods for involving actors across polarization gradients

RT4.3 explores concrete methods for involving a wide range of societal actors in sustainable land use work, including groups that are often marginalized, such as indigenous and Sami communities. The work pays particular attention to how participation can be strengthened across different forms of polarization, and takes into account the personal, cultural and ontological dimensions of land management, as explored in RT4.1.

To support participatory and co-creative processes across research areas, RT4.3 will develop and adapt methods that cover the entire process of knowledge development, from problem understanding and delineation to implementation, learning and evaluation. The methods will be adapted to the specific local and regional contexts of the different case studies. The work builds on the insights from RT4.2 and places particular emphasis on how resistance, conflict and polarization can be addressed in ways that promote inclusion, mutual understanding and broad participation in the work on sustainable spatial futures.
